Somewhere to slow down
Some pubs have a car park with a few benches. We have something rather better. Our garden looks out over a picturesque and quintessentially English village green, the sort of view that makes a pint taste better and an afternoon quietly disappear.
In the warmer months the garden comes into its own. Long lunches stretch into the evening, children play within sight of the table and village life ambles past. It is the pub garden people picture when they dream of the English countryside.
Everything on the menu is served outside too, from a plate of our Butcher's Burgers to a full Sunday roast, with something cold from the bar alongside.
One thing to know
The garden is first come, first served
We do not take bookings for tables in the beer garden, and we rather like it that way. Just come along, find a spot in the sun and settle in. If you would like a table inside, give us a ring and we will look after you.
Bring the whole family
Dogs, children and muddy boots welcome
The Horns is family and dog friendly through and through, and the garden is the easiest place of all to bring everyone along. Children are welcome in the pub and the garden, and well behaved dogs are too.
The walks around Datchworth, Bulls Green and the Hertfordshire lanes are lovely in every season, and there is no better end to a dog walk than a pint on the green while your four legged friend enjoys a rest and a bowl of water. Pop in for a bite to eat or a drink on your way past.
There is parking right outside, so arriving with pushchairs, wellies and the whole family is no trouble at all.

Lovely in summer, cosy all year
When the sun is out there is nowhere better in the village. When the weather turns, the fire is lit inside, the real ales are pouring and the pub is every bit as welcoming. Whatever the season, there is always a reason to call in.

Can I book a table in the beer garden?
No. Tables in the beer garden are first come, first served. If you would like a guaranteed table, call 01438 798052 to book inside the pub.
Are children welcome in the beer garden?
Yes. Families are very welcome, and the garden adjoining the village green is a relaxed place for a family lunch on a sunny day.
Are dogs allowed in the beer garden?
Yes. Dogs are welcome in the garden and inside the pub, and there are lovely walks around Bulls Green and Datchworth to enjoy before or after your visit.
Is the beer garden open in winter?
The garden is at its best from spring through autumn. In colder months most guests head inside to the fires, though the garden remains open for the hardy.
